The same problem with park benches still exists in this 2003 photo: a bench sitter extends a leg over the path at the more distant bench. The bicycle in the foreground could have been parked off the path -- users often also do not take it seriously as a transportation facility. Pedestrians have worn a separate path for themselves closer to the river.
